In the field of architecture and construction, each project is now the focus of a digital model whose information (2D and 3D geometries, surfaces, volumes, constitutive elements, etc.) is transcribed into a free database, called IFC[1]. Thanks to it, all the professionals involved in a project can contribute to this model and, in return, take advantage of this information to integrate the project into their own software. It's the Open BIM[2].

EDICAD HAS BEEN THINKING AND CONCEIVING BIM FOR A LONG TIME

ArchiTECH.PC was BIM[3] even before the acronym existed, and this, through interfaces with RT 2012 software, digital imaging, estimates and measurements (more than 20 plugins up to now), or to work libraries and CCTPs from industry (DatBIM). EDICAD did not wait for the authorities to take over the subject to solve once and for all some problems of redundancy of data entry ─ so productivity and reliability─ through proprietary databases.

Thanks to the proprietary BIM, ArchiTECH.PC and KutchCAD communicate in native with the estimating and management software, i.e. without any loss of information. The resending of the works in these softwares (quantities, disbursement...) is 100% reliable.

In addition, since January 2017, public project owners in France have been able to ask project managers to submit their projects in IFC format. EDICAD has therefore developed imports/exports in IFC format so that ArchiTECH.PC and KutchCAD users can continue to contract with public project owners.

WHAT ARE IFCs USED FOR?

IFCs are useful:

To open, directly in ArchiTECH.PC or KutchCAD, a project drawn with another software, and this without having to make any entry. Therefore, redesigning a project from a 2D plan imported in DXF or DWG is no longer necessary.

To open any project designed with ArchiTECH.PC or KutchCAD, in the 3D application of drawing offices, control offices and building companies for the needs of their business: structural or thermal calculations, layout plans, measurements and quotations, etc.

 

(1) IFC: Industry Fondation Classes. Standardized file format (ISO 16739 standard), object-oriented and used by the construction industry for the exchange and sharing of information between software.

 

(2) Open BIM is a universal cooperation programme for professionals in the conception, construction and use of buildings, based on the use of standards and the setting up of open work processes.

EDICAD CERTIFIED buildingsmart

BuildingSMART, formerly the International Alliance for Interoperability (IAI), is an international non-profit organization dedicated to improving the exchange of information between software applications used in the construction industry. It has developed IFCs that it promotes as a standardised, open format containing information on the complete life cycle of the building: conception, documentation, construction, exploitation, facility management and, finally, demolition and dismantling.

 

The BuildingSMART certification crowns the developments that EDICAD has undertaken, particularly in the field of interoperability of digital technologies for all professional operators involved in the construction, operation of buildings and infrastructures throughout their entire life cycle.
